Blogger Legal Guide

by Hatter on March 13, 2009

You may be concerned about your legal rights and obligations as a blogger. I just posted a link to a legal guide Written for Americans The link is included in this post as well as a widget on the sidebar to this blog.

You can read this at no cost. The document applies in the USA and it might be helpful to you in your research of issues as they apply in your country. I find copyright a difficult issue – I err on the side of getting permission if there is even a glimmer of doubt. Not legal advice but really good common sense

The page about Blogger’s rights is really interesting.

I call myself the rogue media and I have been turned down as media by some organizations even though I have more experience than the junior reporters covering some issues. I object to this treatment I think that we are the equivalent of  the small town newspaper in the early days of journalism. Remember with rights comes responsibility. You should always behave responsibly even in the face of irresponsibility and even rudeness of others. Several times I have written to the “media”contact on a site and have not even received a reply. I am sure CNN does not get that treatment? However, I do not bad mouth these people it simply is bad business ethics.
